Mary Hansen moderated the meeting which began shortly after 7:00 with introductions and neighborhood reports. Some highlights of neighborhood work include:
GROW – has resumed tabling 2 days/week outside 3rd Place Books in Ravenna.
LAKE CITY – potlucks and 2 meetings/month for fellowship and planning, particularly around military recruiting in schools.
CAPITOL HILL – has resumed tabling/meets monthly for planning and monthly for educational forums.
WEST SEATTLE – meets once/month for planning, tabling continues and there is a study group which has begun and is studying theory of non violence.
LAKE FOREST PARK – weekly vigils continue and one in December will be a special one to mark the one year anniversary of continuous weekly vigils.
SOUTH END NEIGHBORS FOR PEACE - meeting once/month for potlucks and planning.
NEIGHBORHOOD CONFERENCE - Tom Barnard reported on the Neighborhood Conference which was held earlier in the month at which 14 neighborhood groups were represented. Tom focussed particularly on the proposals to make the general meetings more appealing as well as on the thinking regarding voting mechanisms. There was general agreement that agendas published ahead of time would help increase attendance as would opportunities for both information and education as well as decision making at meetings.
PATRIOT ACT CAMPAIGN - Marcia Mullins reported on the status of the USA Patriot Act Campaign, encouraging folks to continue to call particular members of the King County Council to persuade them to vote in favor of the resolution which may come to a vote in December.
IRAQ CAMPAIGN - John Repp and Tom Barnard reported on the status of the Iraq Campaign, noting the "Reclaiming the Holidays" events being planned and inviting interested parties to join the planning meetings which occur at 3:00 on Thursdays at the SNOW/FOR office. It was noted that there will be a special event on December 21 at the University Friends Meeting at 7:00 PM to host 2 Iraqi Women who are visiting and touring the U.S. More details to follow.
BYLAWS - Brenda Collier reported on the status of the bylaws noting that they will be out on the website for a 30 day comment period after which there will be a general meeting at which a vote on the bylaws will be taken. As of now, SNOW has no official bylaws. People can comment on the bylaws by writing to bylaws@snowcoalition.org
NEXT GENERAL MEETING – December 8 at 7:00 PM Place TBA. It was agreed that we would try to get a space at which we could hold a potluck at 6:00 so that this anniversary date meeting could be more celebratory in nature. Several people agreed to put some effort into planning for this meeting.
FUNDRAISING – Tom Barnard reported on efforts to sell holiday cards and reminded folks to help both sales and production of these. Details are on the SNOW website. All proceeds from this point on go to SNOW.
