Minutes of the SNOW Coordinating Committee

Date: Monday, January 26, 2004

Present: Elizabeth Brant, Linda York, John Stoltzfuss, Mike Yarrow, Tom Barnard, Ric Power, Ruth Yarrow, Brenda Collier, Annie Phillips.

Budget Issues:

We unanimously agreed that Shannon Turner-Covell, Brenda Collier and Mike Yarrow should the signatures on the SNOW Key Bank account. We agreed to send the task of investigating Federal non-profit status (501-C4) to Jay Gerring for investigation; Ric will talk to Jay.

Bylaws:

We agreed to put a small grammatical problem on the agenda for the next SNOW meeting. Ruth will work on a grammatical fix.

Voter Registration and Caucus:

Annie reported that the Mercer Island Peacemakers has been working hard on voter registration and have completed 100 so far. Elizabeth reported that the South End group recently went to 400 homes, and found that people don’t know about caucuses, so they informed them. We agreed that reports of these activities at the Feb. 9 SNOW meeting would inspire other SNOW groups.

MAP Proposal:

We agreed that Tom could go forward with planning Feb. 14 as a date for Rose Betz-Zall to do a workshop on building a peace movement.

Peace Concert:

We agreed that in addition to getting out the word, putting up posters should be top priority.

Stan Goff:

With the support of Military Families, labor, Seattle Central Community College and AFSC, SNOW will help host Stan Goff on Feb. 21 at Rev. Jeffrey’s New Hope Baptist Church.

March 20 March and Rally:

Next Wednesday's meeting will address the challenge of agreeing on points of unity and slogans. These may include the war at home, the war abroad, Palestine, counter-recruiting, globalization, Patriot Act. Any suggestions for slogans are welcome.

Jobs with Justice:

Tom reported that SNOW has joined JwJ; he attended the quarterly meeting last weekend. The peace and labor effort got the least number of votes; health care got the most.

Housekeeping:

We agreed that the Wallingford group could provisionally put their weekly films on the front page of the SNOW website if it is kept brief. We agreed that we need to work with Spencer and develop and webpage policy.

Stephen Zunes:

We agreed that SNOW could pay Stephen Zunes $100. for his presentation on the UN and Iraq.
