Organizing Committee Report
Tom asked permission to make a proposal, which would affect our planned agenda of focusing the first hour of this meeting to a discussion of by-law revisions. He requested a proposal to create a 'Neighborhood Representative Conference' make up of representatives from each Neighborhood Group and member groups during which revisions to the by-laws would be discussed and a complete document would be produced to take to the general membership for approval.
Linda made the proposal, Jay seconded it, and it was unanimously approved.
By-laws Discussion
Brenda presented her ideas for revision. We spent one very productive hour discussing and revising the first seven items of the Draft By-laws. We will continue this process at the next CC meeting, Oct. 27. Our recommendations will be passed on to the newly created 'NRC' attendees.
Patriot Act Campaign
Gunnel said she had spoken with Dwight Pelz, of the King County Council, and he told her that the resolution against the USAPatriot Act would be introduced to the Council next Monday (Oct. 27). The ACLU will be giving copies of the petitions to the Council. She estimates that roughly 3500 signatures have been collected. Also, the committee has begun talking about what is the next step.
US Out and UN In Campaign
Tom expressed his 'disappointment' with the latest offering from the UN. There will be a statement on the SNOW announce listserve asking people to write letters to the media about this issue.
The speech by Dr. Stephen Zunes on Oct. 10 was successful event, attended by approximately 150 people. His speech included a historical perspective with a detailed and respectful exit plan.
Fund Raising Committee
Jay said that we all should try to find appropriate places and events where we can sell (technically, they are donations rather than "sales") the Peace cards created by Ric and the Holiday cards designed by Tiffany Larscheid. Suggestions included the Pike Place Market, holiday bazaars at churches and schools and the next General Meeting. We need to do this as quickly as possible.
Minutes
The minutes from the Oct. 13 General Meeting were approved.
Next CC and General Meetings
We decided to schedule the next general meeting for Nov. 3 and the next CC meeting for Oct. 27. Jay will find a location for the general meeting, to be held in the Rainier Valley area.
Respectfully submitted by Linda York
